Hamptons-Style House Design

Hamptons-Style House Design

Here are a few pictures of a home we designed recently, constructed on the Mornington Peninsula – the quintessential Storybook Hamptons-Style House Design. This home was designed to reflect the clients budget, living requirements and site constraints, and the owner’s did an excellent job at bringing the whole Hampton’s Look together. Here’s an extract from the realestate listing…

HAMPTONS-STYLE HOUSE DESIGN & GRANDEUR

Brand new luxury living with an intoxicating fusion of Hamptons and coastal architecture, this show stopping 4 bedroom home with glistening swimming pool redefines the wow factor. Between soaring cathedral ceilings and light timber floors, the central living area will truly take your breath away with walls of sash windows overlooking the tiled azure pool and stone-mounted Jetmaster fireplace, while the expansive open layout flows into the epicurean kitchen with Carrara marble counters, Miele appliances (including dual ovens) and butlers pantry.

Swing open the French doors and paradise awaits beside the solar-heated swimming pool with a zen-like covered alfresco patio and deluxe poolhouse for the ultimate in outdoor entertaining. As though lifted from the spread of a designer-living magazine, the grand master bedroom enchants with a wall of windows framing the pool, along with a lavish dressing room and superior ensuite with freestanding Apaiser stone bath, while upstairs a 2nd enormous living room with pitched ceilings and porthole window interconnects with 2 spacious bedrooms and a stunning family bathroom.

Boasting the highest-quality finishes throughout, this sundrenched Hamptons-style haven with bay glimpses includes a large study/4th bedroom, study nook, built-in bench seating, poolhouse, hydronic heating, Daiken split-systems x 4, ducted vacuum, security and intercom system and a 4 car remote garage behind electronic gated entry.

What an awesome Hamptons Home this is and it has recently sold for a pretty penny too thanks to the creativity & great working relationship between Storybook & our clients – well done …

Design of August 2013 – The Hamptons Design

Design of August 2013 – The Hamptons Design

Here is a home inspired by American Architecture – “Ocean Street House” referred to in our office as ‘The Hamptons Design’ – a worthy ‘Design of the Month”. Working from a collage of images provided by our clients, the aim was to have an American Styled Home that fitted into the typical Australian suburban street-scape, looking unique but not out of place. Taking into account strict council requirements in respect of building heights, setbacks, site coverage, car accommodation and so on.. and having only a narrow site to work with, this project was always going to be difficult – so it is a good thing Storybook likes a challenge. The result is a beautiful 5 bedroom home that takes full advantage of the site with an emphasis on outdoor living. Downstairs ‘The Hamptons Design’ features a double tandem Garage (due to width constraints), Separate Entry, Study, Library, Dining, Living, Kitchen with large Walk In Pantry, Covered Alfresco & Verandahs. Upstairs  ‘The Hamptons Design’ has 4 Bedrooms for the kids with a glamorous family Bathroom, a zoned Master Bedroom with large Walk In Robe and Ensuite and the Balcony off the Master Bedroom is the icing on the cake. Adapting an American Hamptons feel in Australia on a typical suburban site is difficult with council’s often restrictive height requirements and three dimensional building envelopes. While many of the traditional American Manor Houses feature close side setbacks, high pitched roofs, gables, a raised ground floor and are often 3 storey’s in height (especially the hamptons design look), Australia’s more conservative council codes make it much harder to achieve a similar feel. Therefore it is always advisable to use design professionals who understand this architecture & knows how to work within these restrictions to avoid being disappointed with the result. Much of the process of designing a home these days is in understanding the constraints of a site and educating the client along the way so everyone is working towards the same realistic goal.

Design of March 2013 – Modern Kit-home

Design of March 2013 – Modern Kit-home

This skillion roofed Storybook “Modern Kit-home” shows how the clever use of light weight materials in the exterior of a home can positively contribute to its balance and appeal. By incorporating matrix cement sheet panels, weatherboards, horizontal corrugated colorbond sheeting & render, we create a low maintenance modern look. Simple roof forms have been deliberately adopted to achieve a clean contemporary feel. The home features an open kitchen / living / meals area facing the sun. Butlers pantry, theatre room, double garage, 4 bedrooms, library, dramatic entry & huge attached studio (which was designed to be optional). A cathedral ceiling in the living finishes off the Architectural Style of this awesome home, our favorite for the month of March…

Design Of January 2013

Hi all, we have started off the year with a bang! Lots of new clients all looking forward to the year ahead and for many of them it will be their “Year of the House”. With our new Agency expansion underway, 2013 looks to be busy & prosperous, so my apologies for this delayed post. Our first offering for the year with our popular ‘House of the Month’ category is this dual occupancy styled development. This answers the question we often get asked ‘does Storybook do dual occupancies or unit developments’ – well the answer is Yes. Nothing is more restrictive than a dual occupancy or battle-axe infill development as there are often very restrictive council requirements, site coverage restrictions, overshadowing, overlooking considerations and access problems.
