Here’s a Small Contemporary Design on a site with a gentle slope – A mix of Skillion roofs and Gables.
Here is an awesome Bed & Breakfast Retreat complex situated midway between Erica and Rawson in Victoria – www.silvertopcottages.com.au. Located in a high bushfire zone, colorbond cladding and other non-combustible materials were selected for compliance and to minimise the bushfire risk. Hats off to the owners Noel & Julie who have created a wonderful forest experience & stay for their guests.
What can be said for this little ‘baby dragonfly style’ design other than cute cute cute… This gorgeous little cottage is to be built in Tasmania on a corner site with wonderful views, so it was important the home looked good from all vantage points. Using our Dragonfly Design as inspiration (a request from the owner) we endeavoured to control costs & maximise appearance. Although only 2 bedrooms, this budget home can be easily modified to include 3 bedrooms if desired. the Wallace Cottage features 2 bedrooms, open kitchen meals and living area, study nook, separate gabled entry, corner verandah, balcony for the views, dormer window, cathedral ceilings, covered alfresco, laundry & generous bathroom with separate toilet, bay window in kitchen & raked ceiling in master & upstairs bedroom, what more could you pack into such a modest little design….
A custom designed dependant persons unit, this modern little 2 bedroom home fits nicely into it’s environment and is modelled to complement the styling of the existing home. We at Storybook love adding positively to an existing setting and ensure each extension, addition, outbuilding or home we do integrates into it’s surroundings. Accessed via a battle-axe driveway leading to the existing home, it was important for this modern little cottage to maintain a sense of separation and individuality yet still remain secondary in scale to the main house. Using the existing slope and working around the existing vegetation, the aptly named Garden Retreat is a single storey home with under house storage accessed via a large sub-floor door.. Careful room placement maintains privacy and maximises the sun into the living areas. This design features a corner verandah, separate entry, 2 bedrooms, open kitchen / living / meals with a cathedral ceiling in the living, walk in pantry, bathroom, separate toilet and laundry. Two entertaining decks ensures a sunny outlook at different times of the day and an optional pergola provides shade during those hotter months of the year. At just under 100m², this design would suit anyone after a modern granny flat, dependant persons unit, garden retreat, bed & breakfast and so on…
Anderson House (Mark 1) is the first draft of a dramatic 2 bedroom cottage with cathedral ceilings, one bathroom & separate w.c, open kitchen / living / meals, laundry, covered alfresco, upstairs sitting overlooking the living and a balcony. I’ve referred to this as mark 1 because we are currently in a redesign phase moving things around to suit our client’s needs. Although this first draft meets general client expectations with the bathroom on the ground floor, this specific client has requested that the bathroom be moved upstairs into her private domain. Here is an example of our desire to both educate our client (by advising them of resale expectations) and our willingness to work with their ideas, even when contrary to our advise. Ultimately it is up to our clients to decide what is important to them, our job is to convey the options and present possible solutions. Having a tight budget to work with increases the challenge but we are always willing to give things a go and look for a creative solution to a problem. Either way, I’m sure someone out there will love this little home estimated around the $170k complete and stay tuned, I’ll be posting mark 2 in the near future.
